Satellite Radio

First Satellite Radio Broadcast, XM and Sirius Radio

• DYK - The first U.S. Satellite Radio broadcast was on September 25, 2001, by XM Satellite Radio, quickly followed by Sirius Satellite Radio just four months later.

Why Satellite Radio?

Did You Know; The story Satellite Radio begins in the 1990s with two U.S. satellite radio companies; Sirius Satellite Radio, and XM Satellite Radio. Both, set out on a long and expensive journey to offer radio programming across a much broader geographical area than terrestrial radio stations, with a wider variety of programming options.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was petitioned to assign new frequencies for satellites, with fierce opposition from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), who contested that satellite radio would harm local radio stations. In 1997, after 7 long years of lobbying, the FCC finally granted approval for Satellite radio.

At first, Sirius and XM competed head-to-head for a decade until finally merging together in 2008 to avoid bankruptcy... becoming Sirius XM Satellite radio.

Licensing and Compliance
Today, Satellite/Internet Radio allows businesses to distribute music programming with licensing to stay in compliance with Digital Rights Management (DRM) for musical works as stipulated by the U.S. Copyright Act. Performing Right Organizations (PRO) provide intermediary services between copyright holders and music service providers.

Copyright infringement liabilities for damages can be up to $150,000 per song played.

The two major "PROs" are ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers), and BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.). ASCAP is the oldest working PRO, launched in 1914, and BMI is the largest PRO in the U.S. Both work on behalf of Songwriters and Publishers to ensure they are compensated through proper licensing compliance.

First Intrusion Detection 1969 Patent

• DYK - The First Intrusion Detection audio-video security system was patented in 1969 by Marie Van Brittan Brown, a New York Nurse, who lived in a high crime neighborhood.

Why Intrusion Detection?

Did You Know; The story of the first Intrusion Detection audio-video security system was patented in 1969 by Marie Van Brittan Brown, a New York Nurse, who lived in a high crime neighborhood in Jamacia Queens. With the support of her Electronics Technician Husband, Albert L. Brown, together they invented the first television audio-visual security system.

That original Intrusion Detection system was the pioneer of all advanced home and business security system technology used today.

The Browns’ invention was pure innovation, drawing on existing closed-circuit TV technology that was already in use by the military in 1942, for rocket observation from a safe distance.

1969 Intrusion Detection Patent

Today’s Cloud-Based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) technology are used in most businesses and commercial facilities. Intrusion Detection Systems consist of many different devices including audio-video surveillance, keypad access control, door contacts, glass break sensors, motion detectors, sirens, strobes, and much more. Unauthorized intruders can be quickly detected when attempting to enter a secured area, with audible or visual alarms, and alert notifications to Security Monitoring Stations or Law Enforcement.

Displays & Mounting

Master Video · 05/20/2021 ·

The First TV Display Mounting System

• DYK - The First Commercial TV Displays and Mounting Systems were developed in the early 1950s to accommodate large, heavy, and bulky Cathode-Ray Tube Televisions.

Why Displays & Mounting?

Did You Know; The First Commercial Television Display Mounts were launched in the USA at the beginning of the 1950s. The early Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) televisions of the time were heavy and bulky, so the first TV lifts and brackets required a large amount of space for installation.

Master Video Systems was at the forefront of early TV technology, with some of the very first Color CRT Commercial Display Installations in America.

By the 1970s, televisions became lighter which allowed the use of ceiling and wall-mounted brackets. Around the year 2000, Flat Panel Displays entered the scene, making custom mounting solutions feasible.

MVS First Color Television

Today, with ever-changing technology and lighter and flatter LED screens, display mounting systems can now be configured to almost any size and specification, from single TVs to multi-screen displays, Video Boards, Digital Signage, and more.

Enhance the Patient/Guest Viewing Experience to Differentiate Services and Improve Satisfaction Ratings.

Consumer TVs vs. Commercial Displays

Consumer Televisions and Commercial Display Screens may look the same, but they serve different functions. Consumer televisions are considered a complete system, with standard components like a tuner and speakers. Whereas, a Commercial Display may not use a tuner or speakers, such as in Digital Signage applications.

The quality of the components and build of Commercial Displays needs to be significantly greater than standard Consumer TVs, due to hours of operation and operating environments. Commercial Displays also have ‘Anti-Burn Technology to avoid ‘Screen Burn’ issues that Consumer TVs experience when running up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Consumer TVs

• Limited warranties that can be voided if used Commercially.

• Not compatible with Content Management Systems (CMS).

• No Digital Rights Management (DRM) encryption protection.

• No ability to lock-out viewers from altering the TV settings.

Commercial TVs

• Warranty includes coverage in Commercial environments.

• Compatible with CMS solutions and centralized management.

• DRM technology ensures secure content everywhere.

• Lockable settings prevent menu and volume tampering.

Master Video is highly experienced in installing television displays and mounting systems to meet the exact design requirements of each facility, both inside and out, for a safe, secure user experience.

• Commercial TVs: Ultra HD LED TVs & Smart Digital Signage TVs.
