Overhead Paging

Master Video · 03/25/2021 ·

First Overhead Paging System 1910

• DYK - The first Overhead Paging System was invented in 1910 for Hospitals by the Automatic Electric Company, a major supplier of automatic telephone switchboards.

Why Overhead Paging?

Did You Know; Did You Know; The history of Overhead Paging goes far back to the origins of Public Address (PA) in ancient Greece when Vitruvius first explored architectural acoustics in 20 BC. From the Ancient Greek era to the nineteenth century, before the invention of electric loudspeakers and amplifiers, Megaphone Cones were used by people speaking to a large audience, to make their voice project louder.

In 1910, the Automatic Electric Company of Chicago, Illinois, already a major supplier of early automatic telephone switchboards, proclaimed it had developed a loudspeaker, which it marketed under the name of the “Automatic Enunciator”.

In June 1910, a live paging demonstration was given to a group of newspaper reporters at the company's building where a speaker's "Big Voice" was transmitted to loudspeakers placed in a dozen locations "all over the building" to be heard by all!

Communication in the Workplace is Key for Your Business

Today, Overhead Paging and Mass Notifications systems are used in Hospitals, Hotels, Schools, Retail, Corporate Complexes, Government Facilities, Factories, and Small Offices to announce, inform, or warn of emergency notifications. Overhead Paging Systems broadcast messages or music into a room, floor, department, building, or exterior area with overhead speakers that blend into any environment for both functionality and aesthetics.

Overhead paging systems can broadcast messages to several zones without causing disruption to other departments. When not in use for paging, quiet music or insightful messages can be targeted to specific areas. IP Paging Systems also works well in conjunction with Video Surveillance Systems and Door Access Systems to help ensure safety and protect employees and customers.

Overhead Paging Benefits

• Mass Emergency Notifications
• Horn, Ringer, Warble Alert
• Indoor / Outdoor Paging
• Multi-Zone Specific Paging
• Night Ringers, Strobe Lights

• Background / Overhead Music
• Auto Ambient Noise Censoring

We Look After Your Technology So You Don’t Have To.

Healthcare Paging; Hospital noise is associated with adverse effects on patients and staff. Healthcare Overhead Paging Systems can segment the facility into as-needed areas for specific paging needs, or a Mass Notification to all patients, guests, and staff, for important announcements, like a lost child or emergency notifications like life-threatening weather alerts, fires, evacuation, or other hazards.

Access Control

First Access Control in 1975

• DYK - The first electronic Access Control was in 1975 when a Norwegian lock maker invented the VingCard, the world’s first recordable keycard hotel door lock.

Why Access Control?

Did You Know; The first electronic Access Control system was developed in 1975, after a Norwegian engineer and locksmith, Tor Sørnes, heard reports about American singer, Connie Francis, was attacked in her hotel room. He was a big fan and was moved by the story. He realized the danger people faced when staying in hotels and was determined to help. Her story inspired him to invent a better door opening system, so hotel guests could feel safe and secure.

Sørnes invented the first electronic Access Control “VingCard” ...a mechanical hole card-operated lock that had a pattern of holes that could be manipulated into 32 positions giving the key 4.2 billion combinations, to form a unique hotel door card for each guest. The intuitive lock would only open for a certain person at a certain time and revolutionized access control in the hospitality industry. Modern Hotel keycards can feature various technologies, such as a Magnetic Strip, RFID, and Mobile Key technology.

Panic Alarms

Master Video · 02/25/2021 ·

First Panic Alarm 1858

• DYK - The First Panic Alarm was installed February 21, 1858, by Edwin Holmes of Boston, using an electromagnetic telegraph, establishing the first alarm network.

Why Panic Alarms?

Did You Know; The first electromagnetic alarm system in the world was a battery-operated gadget that used electromagnetic vibrations, transmitted to a hammer which then struck a brass bell.

American businessman, Edwin Holmes was the founder of the first company for electrical panic alarm systems in 1858, the “Holmes Electric Protection Company.” With Alexander Graham Bell’s new Telephone technology, Holmes used the New York City telephone network as an alarm control system to create the first version of a central monitoring station. Holmes became the president of the newly established Bell Phone Company in 1878… and the rest is history!

Security alarms have come a very long way since Holmes' early model. Today, the purpose of Panic Alarms is to allow a person under duress to quickly call for help in emergencies.
