Intercom Systems

Master Video · 04/29/2021 ·

First Intercom System

• DYK - The First Corporate Intercom System was the “Boss-to-Secretary” intercom in 1937 by Executone, Inc., who became a leading intercom provider by the 1950s.

Why Intercom Systems?

Did You Know; Since the beginning of mankind, people have always needed to communicate over distances, from smoke signals to the telephone, to Internet email, “external” communication is ever-evolving. Communication over smaller distances within a facility is considered “internal communication", which is where the term “Intercom” is derived.

The person credited with inventing the intercom system was Allan Bernstein, an electronics engineer, and founder of Adams Laboratories, the manufacturing arm of what later became Executone Inc.

Early in his career, Berstein invented one of the first intercom systems, the “Boss-to-Secretary” system in 1937, followed by the “Patient-to-Nurse” call station for Hospitals.

Today, Intercom Systems are more than just pushing a button and speaking into a panel for two-way communication. IP-based commercial intercom systems are an integral part of facility-wide communications and security applications in hospitals, commercial sites, industrial facilities, retail malls, schools, campuses, parking garages, and corporate businesses.

Data Analytics

Master Video · 04/22/2021 ·

First Data Analytics by American Industrialists

• DYK - The First use of Data Analytics was by American industrialists at the turn of the 20th Century, like Henry Ford, who revolutionized manufacturing with the assembly line.

Why Data Analytics?

Did You Know; The story of Data Analytics was born among the American industrialists of the late 1800s and early 20th Century. From Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1898, who conducted a time management analysis to improve efficiency at Pennsylvania’s Bethlehem Steel, to Henry Ford, who studied and measured the pacing of the processes down the Model T assembly line, reducing the time to build a car from over 12 hours to just 90 minutes in 1913.

Fast forward to the late 1960s, when Data Analytics became more mainstream when computers were first used as decision-making aids in business. Since then, Data Analytics has grown rapidly as a result of the innovation of Big Data, Data Warehouses, the Cloud, and a range of software and hardware tools. The research, discovery, and identification of trends in data are all part of data analytics.

Cable Distribution

Master Video · 04/08/2021 ·

The First Cable Wired Telegraph

• DYK - The first cabled wired telegraph was by Samuel F.B. Morse in 1844, using a pair of cables strung over 37 miles on poles between Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Why Cable Distribution?

Did You Know; The story of Structured Cable Distribution started as early as 1844, when Samuel Morse (Morse Code) sent a message 37 miles from Washington D.C. to Baltimore, using his invention, 'The Telegraph,' a point-to-point text messaging system over dedicated cable lines. Today's computer network cabling principles remain basically the same, with speeds and feeds ever-increasing over time.

Stretching back over 100 years, the origins of coax cables begin towards the end of the 19th century and have served as the backbone of communications technology for many decades… from radios to telephones, televisions to computers, coax cable has seen continued use even as the technology has evolved.

A Brief History of Cable Distribution:

• 1840s: The first Telegraph message sent 37 miles by Samuel Morse in 1844.
• 1850s: The first Transatlantic telegraph cables were laid underwater in 1858.
• 1880s: The first coaxial cable was patented by English mathematician, Oliver Heaviside in 1880.
• 1890s: The first electrical coaxial conductor was patented by Nikola Tesla in 1894.

Nikola Tesla First Coax Connectors

• 1920s: The first modern coaxial cable patented by AT&T's Bell Telephone Laboratories in 1929.
• 1930s: The first televised cable transmission was the XI Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936.
• 1940s: The first commercial cable was by AT&T, between Minnesota and Wisconsin in 1941.
• 1980s: The first commercially available IEEE 10Base5 (CAT1) Ethernet cable was released in 1983.
• 1990s: The first “fast Ethernet” 1 Gbps fiber optic cables were released in 1995.
• 2000s: The first CAT5 twisted-pair cables reach 10 Gbps.
• 2010s: The first CAT6 Ethernet cables speeds up to 25 Gbps.
• 2020s: The first CAT8 cables offer higher Gbps to terabit speeds.

Technology Evolves Quickly, and Ethernet is No Exception to that Fast-Paced World.

Today, a properly designed and installed Structure Cabling System provides a cable infrastructure that delivers predictable performance as well as the flexibility to accommodate expansions and to ‘future-proof’ the usability of the cabling system.

Master Video designs, services, and installs Cable Distribution Systems and full-service cabling in Hospitals, Hotels, and Commercial Facilities, optimizing signal strength to enhance the end-user experience. We have broad experience in CAT and Fiber Cabling; our engineering and design teams work to integrate the cabling network to specifically meet the needs of each facility with the highest quality standards.

Due to Technology Innovations, Hospitals & Hotels are converting from Coax to CAT6

Master Video’s Cable Distribution Systems are designed for Hospitals, Healthcare Facilities, Hotels and Resorts, Entertainment Venues, Government Buildings, Schools, Universities, and Corporate Offices.

Technology is constantly evolving, and Structured Cabling systems organize your infrastructure and help to future-proof your business, making moves, adds, and changes much easier and reducing potential downtime. Our Installation and Service Teams are highly trained on the latest, most relevant industry standards, and keep up-to-date on technology changes through continuing education. We are dedicated to reliable network design and proper installation to ensure uptime, high performance, and end-user satisfaction.

WE LOOK AFTER YOUR TECHNOLOGY SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO.

Master Video CEO Mike Lawshe and VP Brandon Lawshe

“Master Video full-service cabling solutions can “future-proof” your facility, from updating current cabling to installing new cable infrastructures and connecting to IPTV/AV end-point devices. Whether Coax, Twisted Pair, Cat6, or Fiber, we have you covered.”

First Hotel Televisions Early 1950s

• DYK - The first Hotel Television Systems were installed in the early 1950s by hotel magnate, Conrad Hilton, in the Waldorf Astoria, the Plaza, and Roosevelt Hotel.

Why Master Video?

Did You Know; The first Hotel Television Systems were installed in the 1950s in fine New York hotels owned by Conrad Hilton, including The Waldorf Astoria, The Plaza, and The Roosevelt Hotel, where Hilton called the Presidential Suite, "Home", in the “Grand Dame of Madison Avenue.” Master Video was there in the beginning at the Waldorf-Astoria, to install, service, and support the new "Hotelevision," nearly 70 years ago!

Installing televisions in hotel guestrooms was an incredible industry first, quickly replacing hotel radios to the delight of hotel guests, who could now watch local New York TV station's early over-air broadcasted programs for an extra $3 a day; the birth of "Paid TV."

In the early 1950s, Master Video installed, serviced, and maintained the first multi-purpose television system in New York's Waldorf-Astoria.

Master Video 1960 Brochure

Master Video expanded to the first national TV Systems integration company in the hospitality market with 23 offices nationwide.

Master Video Systems Established 1953

By the 1980s, Master Video moved its corporate headquarters to Dallas Texas, to become one of the top systems integration companies in the nation. Today, Master Video is a leading systems integration company specializing in Hospitality and Healthcare markets, Corporate and Commercial Facilities, and Education and Government sectors, with nearly 70 years of hand’s-on experience.
